Why Landowners Trust Mike With Their Land

Mike Martien was raised on a third-generation family farm and has spent more than 30 years working in agriculture and land — as a producer, in agribusiness, and as a lifelong landowner improving his own ground. Today he is a nationally recognized land specialist with America’s Land Partners, licensed in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi, and the founder of Big Cypress Land & Game.

That combination is the point: there are plenty of contractors who can clear land, and plenty of agents who can list it. Mike is the rare professional who does both — so every project on your property is planned by someone who knows exactly what it will mean for the land’s usability, its wildlife, and its value when it matters most.

Real Work, Real Results

Every property tells a story — here is how a few of them changed.

Mike Martien girdling a hardwood to create wildlife snag habitat on his Richland Parish property

A Haven for Bats, Quail & Deer — NRCS Conservation Partnership

The problem: On Mike’s own forestland in northern Richland Parish, a closed hardwood canopy was shading out the understory — little browse, little cover, and poor habitat for forest bats and bobwhite quail.

The solution: Working with NRCS through the Conservation Stewardship Program, Mike created snags and den trees across 28 acres of upland hardwoods — 23 low-value trees selected, girdled, treated, photographed, and logged on a GIS map, targeted along whitetail travel corridors.

“By opening the tree canopy we’re letting sunlight in, which will increase browse and cover for the deer that move along these ridges. It’s a win-win for the bats and the deer habitat.” — Mike, in the USDA-NRCS Louisiana Update (Sept 2024)

Forestry mulcher opening a dense timber understory in Northeast Louisiana

Opening Up a Choked Timber Understory

The problem: A timber tract overtaken by dense saplings and brush — no visibility, no access, and ground you couldn’t walk, hunt, or manage.

The solution: A single forestry-mulching pass with our tracked mulcher, grinding the understory in place — no piles, no burning, no hauling.

An open, walkable stand with a protective mulch layer that holds the soil and triggers the fresh browse that draws deer — timber left standing, value left intact.

Bush hogging an overgrown field back into open, usable ground near Rayville, LA

Bringing an Overgrown Field Back Into Use

The problem: A field left uncut long enough to turn into waist-high growth and early brush — unusable, snake-friendly, and hurting the property’s look and marketability.

The solution: A heavy reclaim cut with the bush hog, then a maintenance plan to keep it from ever getting away again.

Open, usable ground that mows clean, drains better, and presents the property the way a landowner — or a future buyer — wants to see it.

A Landowner’s Philosophy

I Believe Every Acre Has Greater Potential

My mission isn’t simply to clear land, or to help people buy and sell it. It’s to help landowners improve, enjoy, preserve, and maximize the value of one of the most important assets they’ll ever own — and build a legacy they’re proud to pass on to their children and grandchildren.

That philosophy ties everything I do together: agriculture, wildlife, conservation, construction, real estate, and stewardship. When you look at land that way, every decision — what to clear, what to plant, where to put a road, when to buy or sell — becomes an investment in what the property can become.
