Dirt Work & Grading in Rayville, LA

Dirt Work & Grading · Rayville, LA

Shape, Level, and Prepare Your Ground the Right Way

Solid ground starts with solid dirt work. Big Cypress handles site preparation, grading, leveling, building pads, and drainage shaping across Rayville, Monroe, Ruston, Bastrop and across Northeast Louisiana — moving and grading earth to exact specifications so your project sits on stable, well-drained ground. Whether you are setting a homesite, a shop, or a barn, the pad has to be right before anything goes on top of it.

Having improved his own land with new roads, pads, and water management, owner Mike Martien approaches every grading job as an investment in the property's long-term function and value. We tie dirt work together with land clearing, new driveways and access, and pond construction so your site is cleared, shaped, drained, and accessible as one coordinated job.

Grading Built Around Drainage

In Northeast Louisiana, water is the deciding factor. Flat ground and heavy soils mean a pad that does not shed water will stay soft, rut, and undermine whatever sits on it. We grade with fall and drainage in mind first — shaping the ground so water leaves the pad and the building site instead of pooling on it.

That means setting the right elevation, building up and compacting fill where it is needed, and cutting swales or shaping ditches to carry water away. Done right, good dirt work is invisible — the pad just stays dry, firm, and level for years.

Site Prep for What Comes Next

Most of our grading work is the first step in a bigger project: a homesite, a metal building, a food plot, or an equipment yard. We prepare the ground to the elevation and compaction your builder or plan calls for, then hand off a clean, ready site.

Because we also clear and build access, we can take raw, wooded acreage and deliver a finished, build-ready pad with a driveway to reach it — one crew, one accountable point of contact, start to finish.

Call (318) 235-7597

Do you build home and building pads?
Yes. Building up, leveling, and compacting a pad to the right elevation is one of our most common jobs — for houses, shops, barns, and metal buildings. We build the pad to the specs your builder or plans require so it is ready when construction starts.
Can you fix standing water and drainage problems?
Often, yes. A lot of "wet yard" and soft-ground problems come down to grade. We reshape the ground so water moves off it — adjusting fall, cutting swales, and shaping ditches. For larger water issues we can also build retention or a pond.
Do you haul in fill dirt?
Yes — we place and compact fill where a site needs to be built up, and we will talk through material and quantity on the estimate. Where it makes sense, we balance cut and fill on-site to keep cost down.
Do you do the clearing and the dirt work?
We do. Many projects start with land clearing or forestry mulching and roll straight into grading and pad work, so you are not coordinating multiple contractors on the same piece of ground.
How do I get a grading estimate?
Call or send your project details and we will walk the property, talk through elevations and drainage, and give you a free, no-obligation estimate. Aerial imagery of the site helps us scope it accurately.
