Why Big Cypress Is Different

The Land Specialist Advantage

A Lifetime Dedicated to Land

Every Page of Mike’s Story Is Written on Land

Mike Martien was raised on a third-generation family farm, where land was not an investment category — it was the family’s living, heritage, and daily work. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness, built a 30-plus-year professional career serving agriculture, and became a lifelong landowner himself, improving his own ground with new roads, a pond, food plots, and managed wildlife habitat.

Today that lifetime shows up in two businesses that feed each other: Big Cypress Land & Game, his land improvement company — and his work as a nationally recognized land specialist with America’s Land Partners, licensed in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Contractors see the work. Agents see the market. Mike sees both, on every acre.

Agricultural Career

Three Decades Serving Agriculture

Before Big Cypress, Mike built an accomplished career in agriculture and agribusiness — spanning agricultural production, business development, management, marketing, finance, land management, and the emerging carbon market. He served growers and the land with some of the industry’s leading companies:

That background matters on your property. Mike reads soil, drainage, and productivity like the agronomy professional he has been for three decades — and he understands the economics of land from the perspectives of a producer, an investor, a lender, and a wildlife manager.

Conservation

Stewardship You Can Read About in a USDA Newsletter

Conservation is not a marketing word for Mike — it is what he does on his own ground. On his forestland in northern Richland Parish, he has partnered with NRCS through the Conservation Stewardship Program to create habitat for forest bats and bobwhite quail: selecting, girdling, and GIS-mapping low-value trees to create snags and den trees across 28 acres of upland hardwoods, targeted along whitetail travel corridors.

The project was featured by USDA-NRCS Louisiana in September 2024. In Mike’s words from the article: “By opening the tree canopy we’re letting sunlight in, which will increase browse and cover for the deer that move along these ridges. It’s a win-win for the bats and the deer habitat.”

He brings the same hands-on program experience — USDA, NRCS, wildlife restoration — to clients’ properties through wildlife habitat improvements.

Land Improvements

A Contractor Who Improves Land Like He Owns It

Big Cypress Land & Game is the working end of Mike’s expertise: land clearing and reclamation, site preparation and dirt work, roads, driveways and access, wildlife habitat improvements, and drone mapping, aerial imagery and herd assessments across Northeast Louisiana.

The difference is the lens. Every clearing plan, pad, road, and food plot is designed around what it does for the property — its usability, its enjoyment, its marketability, and its long-term value. That is what it means to have your contractor and your land specialist be the same person.

A Landowner’s Philosophy

I Believe Every Acre Has Greater Potential

My mission isn’t simply to clear land, or to help people buy and sell it. It’s to help landowners improve, enjoy, preserve, and maximize the value of one of the most important assets they’ll ever own — and build a legacy they’re proud to pass on to their children and grandchildren.

That philosophy ties everything I do together: agriculture, wildlife, conservation, construction, real estate, and stewardship. When you look at land that way, every decision — what to clear, what to plant, where to put a road, when to buy or sell — becomes an investment in what the property can become.

Whether he is hunting, fishing, or working his tractor, Mike lives what he sells — land, legacy, and a deep respect for the outdoors.

Why Work With Mike

One Advisor for the Land Itself

There are numerous contractors who can clear land, build roads, or prepare a homesite. There are very few professionals who combine third-generation farming heritage, three decades in agriculture, hands-on land improvement, nationally recognized performance in rural real estate with America’s Land Partners, FAA-certified drone capability, and documented conservation work — and bring all of it to your property.

That combination is the Land Specialist Advantage: improvements planned around value, purchases guided by improvement potential, and sales backed by a marketing reach few brokerages can match. Mike is not just providing a service — he takes pride in helping landowners make better decisions about their property.

  • Land improvement planned around long-term value
  • Straight answers from someone who sees both sides
  • One accountable point of contact, start to finish
  • A licensed land specialist with America’s Land Partners in your corner
