Clear Overgrowth the Smart Way — In a Single Pass

Forestry mulching is the fastest, lowest-impact way to take back overgrown property across Rayville, Monroe, Ruston, Bastrop and across Northeast Louisiana. A single machine grinds brush, briars, vines, undergrowth, and small trees into a fine mulch layer right where they stand — so there are no debris piles to burn, no stumps to haul off, and no torn-up ground left behind. The result is open, walkable land that resists erosion and regrowth.

It is also the right tool for recreational and timber ground. Selective mulching opens shooting lanes, improves access, and encourages the new browse that draws deer and game — the same habitat-minded work Big Cypress is known for. When a job needs more than mulching, our crew carries it straight through to full land clearing, dirt work, or habitat improvement.

Why Forestry Mulching Beats Burning and Hauling

Traditional clearing means cutting, piling, burning, and hauling — several steps, multiple machines, and a torn-up site. Forestry mulching does it in one pass. The cutter head grinds vegetation in place and leaves a protective layer of mulch that suppresses regrowth, holds the soil, and breaks down into the ground naturally.

In Northeast Louisiana, where heavy rain and gumbo soils make erosion a real concern, that mulch layer matters. It keeps freshly cleared ground from washing or rutting before you build, farm, or hunt it — and it skips the burn permits and smoke that come with pile-and-burn clearing.

Land We Mulch

We mulch wooded homesites, overgrown pasture, neglected timber stands, fence lines, ditch banks, and recreational tracts. On hunting property we mulch selectively — opening the understory and cutting lanes while leaving the mast-producing hardwoods that hold game.

Every job is planned the way a fellow landowner would plan it: with an eye on what the land is for next. Owner Mike Martien has improved his own ground and guided landowners across Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi, so the work is judged on usability, wildlife value, and long-term return — not just acres knocked down.

How is forestry mulching different from bush hogging?
A bush hog mows grass and light brush close to the ground. A forestry mulcher grinds heavier material — saplings, brush, and small trees up to several inches across — into mulch and can clear standing woody growth a bush hog cannot. For tall grass and open fields, see our bush hogging service; for wooded overgrowth, mulching is the tool.
How big a tree can a forestry mulcher handle?
Our equipment comfortably mulches brush and trees up to roughly 6–8 inches in diameter, depending on species and density. Larger trees are better handled with land clearing or removed and the stumps ground separately — we will tell you which approach fits your property on the walk-through.
Do you have to haul off the mulch?
No. The mulch stays on-site as a thin, even layer that protects the soil, suppresses regrowth, and decomposes naturally. There are no piles to burn and nothing to haul, which is part of what makes mulching faster and cleaner than traditional clearing.
Will the brush grow back?
The mulch layer slows regrowth, but aggressive species like privet, briars, and sweetgum will try to return. For long-term control we can mulch on a maintenance cycle or pair the work with selective treatment — we will lay out a realistic plan for your ground.
What does forestry mulching cost?
Price depends on acreage, how thick and woody the growth is, and terrain. The honest answer is that no two tracts are the same, so we give a free, no-obligation estimate after walking the property or reviewing aerial imagery of it.
